I have entered my User Name and License No but the reminder dialog still appears ...

The program tells me I need version 5 of the Windows Common Controls.  Where can I get them ?

I am getting an error -132 when installing.  What does this mean ?

What is Castle NewsAlert ?

When I run the program, this error occurs : "The program.exe file is linked to missing export COMCTL32.DLL:_TrackMouseEvent."

When I run the program, this error occurs : "A required .DLL file, OLEPRO32.DLL, was not found."

How can I tell what version of the Windows Common Controls are currently installed on my Windows PC ?

Answer It is very important to type in the User Name and License No exactly as they appear in the email you received.  It is usually easier to use the Windows copy and paste features to copy the User Name and License No from the email and paste them into the appropriate boxes in the license dialog.

The program tells me I need version 5 of the Windows Common Controls.  Where can I get them ?
Answer

The upgrade file is distributed as 50comupd.exe.  The following URL on the Microsoft site has download links for the latest versions of the common control :

http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ieplatform/ie/comctrlx86.asp

NOTE : You can use the file 50comupd.exe to install the Windows Common Controls (Comctl32.dll version 5.80.x.y) on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. You cannot use 50comupd.exe for Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups 3.x, or Windows NT 3.x. You must install Service Pack 4 or later on Windows NT 4.0 before installing 50comupd.exe. As with all operating system changes, administrator privileges are required to use 50comupd.exe on Windows NT 4.0.

I am getting an error -132 when installing.  What does this mean ?
Answer You probably have a copy of the program running which you are trying to install.  Try closing the running application and try installing again.

When I run the program, this error occurs : "The program.exe file is linked to missing export COMCTL32.DLL:_TrackMouseEvent."
Answer Most Castle applications make use of features available in the latest version of the Windows Common Controls library.  It is relatively straightforward to upgrade the Common Controls on your computer. See Where to get the Common Controls upgrade.

When I run the program, this error occurs : "A required .DLL file, OLEPRO32.DLL, was not found."
Answer Some of your operating system components (the OLE components) are probably out of date and need upgrading.  See the information above about DCOM95/98.

I want to backup my Paste Items.  What do I need to backup ?
Answer There are two main objects that need to be backed up, so that you can restore your Paste Items at a later time.  In the folder that CastlePaste is installed to, there is a file called CastlePaste.cfg and a folder called PasteItems.  Both the file and the folder should be included in your backup.

NewsAlert says that it "cannot contact Castle Software".  What should I do ?
Answer There are a number of reasons why this might occur, including (but not limited to) :
  • You are not connected to the Internet.
  • The Internet is currently very busy.
  • You are running an old version of NewsAlert.

You can check our Downloads page to see if there are patch files available to upgrade your version of NewsAlert to a later version.

When WorldTimer starts it tells me "Local time zone not found" ...
Answer This is usually a system configuration problem.  Try resetting your PC's time zone using the Date/Time applet in the Control Panel.  Go to the Time Zone tab and choose your time zone.  Then choose OK and rerun WorldTimer.
If this does not fix the problem, please download TzCheck.exe and run it.  Send an email to support@CastleSoftware.biz explaining the problem you encountered, and attach the file generated by TzCheck.exe (C:\TzCheck.txt).  We will investigate the problem and get back to you as soon as possible.
